Navigating the Application Process
The journey to a fansign event starts with the application process. Here’s how it typically works:
- Stay Informed: This one’s a no-brainer. Official sites and accounts, that’s it. They usually announce fansign events here first. It might already be a given that you follow your favorite group’s official social media accounts and fancafes but not everybody get to have the time and energy to keep up with the updates. That’s why update accounts are there. And if that’s not enough, the search bar of the X app or threads is just clicks away!
- Purchase Albums: This is no news. As capitalists as it sounds, most fansigns require you to buy albums from a specific store during a set period. Each album purchase usually counts as one entry. That’s why the more albums you buy, the more chances you get. It’s still based on luck! If you don’t want to splurge, it doesn’t hurt to try with buying only an album or a set.
- Choose your platform: Tickets/Raffles are usually sold through Korean sites like Yes24 or Interpark for offline fansigns but for online ones, there are sites that hosts videocall events such as Apple Music, M2U, Synnara, Ktown4u, and many more.
- Create an account: You might need a Korean phone number or address! Exactly, “how dare they not consider international fans?” But worry no more because fans help each other out and assistance are also available around. If by chance you need a Korean number or address, proxies are now a thing! Consider using a proxy service and you can also find them mostly on the X app, instagram, threads or even facebook. We cannot recommend a specific one but the biggest advice you should take from us is that you have to also be careful in choosing proxy services. Make sure you check their reviews and quality of services before availing their assistance.
- Enter the lottery, Set an alarm, Wait for results: That’s it.
- Cross Your Fingers: Manifestations work so just manifest and hope for the best! Again, Winners are usually selected through a random draw. The more albums you buy, the higher your chances but again, sometimes, some people are just lucky to purchase as little as 1 album and gets to win so it still doesn’t hurt to take chances and try!
💡 Pro Tip: Some fans increase their odds by buying multiple albums. While this can improve your chances, always spend within your means! And don’t forget the mass buying of albums may contribute to pollution so don’t forget to be a responsible consumer too!
Tickets
If you’re lucky enough to be selected, congratulations! Here’s what comes next:
- For offline events, you’ll typically receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to claim your ticket.
- Online fansigns often require you to download a specific app (such as Kakaotalk) or access a particular platform. Make sure to practice and navigate the app thoroughly for smooth process (and make sure to have an extra device).
Preparing Your Documents
For both online and offline events, you’ll need to prepare some documents:
- Proof of Purchase: Keep your order confirmation and receipt handy.
- Identification: A valid photo ID is crucial, especially for offline events.
- For online events: A stable internet connection and a device with a camera. (Again, to emphasize, A STABLE INTERNET CONNECTION). You might also want to prepare an extra device for a “just in case moment”.
- For International Fans: If you’re attending an offline event in Korea, make sure you have your passport and any necessary visas.
Fan Etiquette
Respect is key at fansign events. Here are some golden rules:
- Most basic one: Be polite and follow staff instructions. Korean staff are strict so unless you want to get kicked out of the call or the venue, make sure to abide with all the rules.
- Avoid asking personal or inappropriate questions (For your idol’s sanity, make sure your questions or sentences would also match their energy. We’re sure you’ve seen some cringey fancall clips online. You might want to avoid that)
- For online events, ensure your background is tidy and your audio is clear.
Remember, your behavior reflects on the entire fandom. Let’s keep it positive!
And just like concerts, in order to get your fave’s attention, you can try dressing up like them too! And to save you the time & energy, Fashion Chingu got everything you need.
Understanding Your Chances
Winning a spot at a fansign can feel like hitting the jackpot. Your odds depend on several factors:
- The number of albums you purchase
- The total number of applicants
- The number of spots available (usually 100-200 for offline events, potentially more for online)
While it’s not guaranteed, don’t lose hope. Again, many fans have stories of winning with just one or two entries! (Also, don’t spend beyond your means!)
Online vs Offline: Weighing the Pros and Cons
Online Fansign Events | Offline Fansign Events |
---|---|
Since the pandemic, online fansigns have become increasingly popular. Here’s what you need to know: Platform: Usually held via video conferencing apps like Kakao Talk or custom platforms. Duration: Typically shorter than offline events, often lasting 30-60 seconds per fan. Other sites would offer up to 2 mins or more. It really depends tbh. Interaction: You can chat, ask questions, and sometimes even request small performances. Accessibility: No need to travel to the venue. Cons: Technical Issues, Lack of physical interaction | Nothing beats meeting your idols in person! Offline fansigns offer: Face-to-face interaction: A chance to see your favorite artists up close (but some organizers still uses a transparent barrier nowadays) Autographs: Get your album or merchandise signed. Photo opportunities: Some events allow individual or group photos Cons: Higher Cost (travel and accomodation), Shorter interaction time due to logistics |
